Venus are a 5-piece all girl rock band from Leeds, advocating women in alternative music, and a safer, diverse music scene. Aiming to bring a positive energy of feminism and activism through hard hitting rock and punk influenced music, they are bursting onto the Leeds music scene with more drive than ever. Performing alongside bands such as Stealing Sheep at Her Music PR & Brighter Sound’s Her Fest, Venus are consistently marking impressions on some of the most influential bands of the year.
Freaky Friday is their new single and it sounds very impressive. I adore the powerful melodies which create amazing soundscapes. The vocal performance is as expected phenomenal. Furthermore, I am also a big fan of the dynamics and the construction of the chorus!
Lead singer GK says Freaky Friday is the most emotionally bearing and intimate song we’ve released. Not even just lyrically, but musically, we wanted each member of the band to have their own moment within the song and express their anguish. I wrote the lyrics in this to not only comfort myself, but to liberate others from toxic variants in their lives. Not necessarily or exclusively romantic, but in friendship, families and in socio-political contexts, because toxicity comes in all forms and in different ways. Take solace in that pain is temporary and those who have treated you with disrespect without any remorse will know and realise their behaviour at some point in their lives. They’re the ones who have to live with that, which for us is the ultimate form of closure.
Freaky Friday is a track that has all the facets of a modern gem. Be sure to stream it as soon as possible!
