Toronto duo YSSY makes vivid, synthy alt-pop that’s throwback-tinted and refreshing all at once. Comprised of formerly LA-based singer-songwriter/producer Elliot Caroll and versatile multi-instrumentalist/producer Simeon Abbott (Dwayne Gretzky), the pair met on a first date and immediately bonded over a shared love of modern pop sounds and classic songcraft. Within months, they cemented their musical partnership and built a studio together.
YSSY recently released their new single Burn My House Down and it is a wonderful piece of music. I really like the up-tempo melodies. Besides, the vocals are outstanding. Furthermore, I am also a big fan of the dynamic chorus!
On the single, Elliot says: “The song comes from the point of view of someone who’s stuck – in their mind, their relationships, or their own negative patterns – and that key moment where they realize something’s got to give. When you’re struggling in a situation like that, change can feel impossible, but the first step is to strike the match. I write from experience because I feel like I’ve set my life on fire multiple times. And I think many of us have been there.”
