2019 was a landmark year for Indie pop songstress Orla Gartland who released her first acclaimed EP Why Am I Like This? with the title track garnering 4.5 million streams, played a sold out European headlining tour, and late last year released two singles, Figure It Out and Did It To Myself (over 780K+ streams across all platforms), from her gorgeous and much anticipated upcoming EP Freckle Season, due out February 21, 2020.
Heavy is the third track for the upcoming EP and it sounds wonderful. I like the unique piano chords. Besides, the vocals are just perfect. Furthermore, I am also a fan of the powerful chorus.
Lyrically, the song is very impressive. It’s an absolutely heartbreaking ode to the end of love, the painful emptiness of uncoupling and how it feels to miss someone intensely.
On the single, Gartland says: ”Heavy is a tribute to someone I desperately miss. Obviously break ups are shit but I didn’t properly grasp that until I was right in the thick of it, up late one night scanning over every tiny detail of the relationship – how I felt when we were together, what they wore, the shows we binge watched together. I finally realised that even if it’s the right thing to do, cutting ties with someone you love probably should feel this hard.”
Gartland is such a talented artist, she makes music with her soul. Heavy has all the elements of a true masterpiece. Start streaming it as soon as possible!
