When the gatekeepers of the music world tried to contain the superpowers of four creative sisters – walls fell. The rubble (made mostly of ‘writer’s block’), became the ground floor of a new start. Tossing away the assembly-line process and embracing the freedom of the unknown, the sisters reconnected with their intuition and one another in a force of genetic creativity bent on healing.
Rainbow is SHEL’s (sisters Sarah, Hannah, Eva, and Liza Holbrook) new single and it sounds impressive. I like the unique melodic construction. Besides, the vocals are outstanding. Furthermore, I am also a fan of the powerful hooks and well-written lyrics.
On the single, Eva says: ”In many rural societies in India, people believe that the loss of a woman’s husband is a result of her bad karma. There’s a ceremony after his death that involves dressing her in white (the color of death), smashing the bangles around her wrist, and turning her out of society to beg on the streets. Often her own children abandon her.
We wanted to support the new story that is unfolding at Hope Springz, a craft center in Vrindavan, India, by commissioning Rainbow bracelets from the Maas there, in the hopes of empowering them. The bracelets also serve as a symbol of restored color and dignity. Our hope with ‘Rainbow’ is to share the story of these brave, but vulnerable women, and invite people to stand with them.”
The single is accompanied by a fantastic music video, directed by Kyle Rasmussen. The video features the women of Hope Springz, and the joy on their faces is unforgettable.
Rainbow is a track needs to be heard by everyone. Start streaming it as soon as possible!
