Speaking about the track, she says: ”sad af was written around a kitchen table with some close friends. we were talking about breakups and relationships. we got on the topic of the in-between stages of “in a relationship” and “single” where you’re just consistently in your feelings. you’re quite literally sad as f*ck… all the time. when people ask you if you’re still together, or they ask you how your relationship is going – you just kind of brush it off and you don’t want to talk about it cause you don’t really have an answer for it other than being super upset about it. we wrote the song in a few hours and recorded it in the dining room and then we had sad af.”
