For Dagny, her striking pop music has been the perfect place to explore not just her own, but also others’ emotions. It all came together for the first time when the upbeat and contagious single Backbeat surprised the industry in 2015. The road to international attention was quite short as the track rose the charts in multiple territories, resulting in over 40 million cumulative streams. Since then she has grown to become one of Norway’s most exciting artists, live performers and songwriters – over 450 million streams amassed, sold out tours, and critical acclaim by everyone from Nylon and Billboard to The Guardian and Harpers Bazaar, within the span of just a few short years.
Dagny recently released It’s Only A Heartbreak, the first single off of her upcoming album, Stranger/Lovers: Side B.
Fantastic work. The song features catchy melodies, outstanding vocals, smooth harmonies, and solid hooks.
Dagny’s lyrics are impressive. She writes with authentic depth.
”Most days, I wake up, I’m okay
I’m doin’ my own thing, I don’t have a moment
To think about you, you
Most days, I’m up on a high wave
And I’m just like, mmm, it’s only a heartbreak
I gotta get through you”
Speaking about the track, the artist says: ”It’s Only A Heartbreak is actually partly inspired by the classic movie ‘Casablanca’ from 1942, and Humphrey Bogart’s famous quote: ‘Here’s looking at you, kid’. Like the movie, the song is about knowing that you will never get someone back, but you can secretly still look at, and admire, that certain someone. The song carries a nonchalant expression, but the undertone makes it pretty obvious that you’re not over that person yet.”
Dagny continues to deliver good music. Her talent speaks for itself. It’s Only A Heartbreak has all the ingredients of a hit.
