Following the release of Alone with Copenhagen-based artist Naes London, Melbourne’s alt pop singer/songwriter Melissa Ramsay returns with the ethereal, airy and hopeful Free. It was produced and mixed by Hayden Francis (Woodes, Wolfjay).
What a great piece of music. Ramsay captivate listeners with unique beats, smooth vocals, glimmering synths, acoustic guitars and pervasive soft piano.
Lyrically, the artist remains as insightful as ever. She’s a skilled writer.
Ramsay on Free:
“I wrote this a long time before COVID-19 but decided to release it now because I think a lot of people will be able to relate to the feelings of anxiety. It talks about feeling cooped, which many people have experienced while staying home to keep themselves and others safe. There’s also a sense of hope in the song. I wanted to release something brighter to feel like a warm sunny day for people to listen to and escape to.”
Ramsay creates her own lane. Free deserves 5 stars. A real masterpiece, in my opinion.
