Devin Kennedy’s new single Poetry is all about love. But it’s not just one kind of love. The lyrics explore the many different ways that love can rise or fall. There’s the passionate, all-consuming love that we see in movies and read about in novels. Then there’s the more mundane, everyday kind of love that we all experience in our lives. Kennedy doesn’t shy away from either of these kinds of love. Instead, he embraces them and shows us the good, the bad and the ugly of love.
Poetry really drives home the idea that love is something to be cherished and worked for. It’s not a passive thing that just happens to us; it takes work. The song is written from the perspective of someone who has seen a lot of different types of love, and believes that it’s always worthwhile, no matter what form it takes. This is a lesson we could all stand to learn.
