It’s been a while since we’ve heard from Sable. Her debut EP, released in 2021, was an dark post-dub record. But her new single, Long Hot Summer, is a departure from that aesthetic.
This time around, Sable has gone for something more pop-inspired. The instrumentation is glossy and electronic, with chirpy percussion. And Sable sings her heart out, conveying the lyrics’ meaning well.
Long Hot Summer reflects the contradictions that characterize our times. On the one hand, we can see our loved ones again and dance in a room full of total strangers. On the other hand, there’s a seemingly never ending string of crises and uncertainty looming over our heads.
It’s hard not to feel overwhelmed and anxious sometimes. But we have to remember that we’re not alone. There are plenty of people feeling the same way as us. So keep your head up and believe in a brighter future.
