It’s not easy living with a mental illness. You’re fighting a battle every day that most people can’t even understand. They see you as strong and brave for dealing with it, but the truth is you don’t feel strong or brave at all. You feel like you’re drowning, and sometimes the only thing that keeps you afloat is the thought of someday being free from it all.
Ella Mar’s High Anyway was created as a love letter to those dealing with mental illness and resorting to self-medication. It’s meant to help people feel less alone, and let them know that things will turn out fine in the end.
With its heavy use of synths and distinctly 80s sound, High Anyway takes you back to an era when pop music sounded more organic. The chorus of the song will remain in your head long after it’s over.
