Yaminah wrote Lucid about a time when she began to doubt herself. She had a lot of dreams and visions, and some of them were so vivid that she couldn’t tell whether they were real or not. It was confusing for her, and she wanted to capture that feeling in the song.
The production on Lucid is harmonious and brings you into a zen state of mind. It starts off quietly and then builds into a catchy chorus that will have you hooked.
In this particular performance, Yaminah’s attention to precision shines through. Every note is sung with such intention and control that it’s impossible not to be mesmerized.
It’s also pretty amazing how Yaminah manages to sing such delicate, intricate melodies without any strain in her voice. I’m not sure how she does it, but it sounds effortless. There must be a lot of technical skill involved.
