Sophia DeLeo is back with another single from her much-anticipated sophomore EP Drama Queen, titled My Body Was My Own. It features striking guitar chords that provide a nice melodic foundation. There’s also some haunting synthesizer work to add an extra element of emotion. The sound flows and ebbs in an absolutely fascinating manner. I think Sophia conveys the lyrics well.
My Body Was My Own examines the impact that social pressures can have on a young person’s self-esteem and body image. The lyrics deal with the challenges of growing up and finding a place in the world. Sophia sings, “All the posters of the models and the actresses and dancers on the four walls of my room are closing in,” highlighting how young women are constantly bombarded with images that undermine their self-esteem.
This song impresses on all levels, and for that it should be praised. Check it out My Body Was My Own below!
