Rising talent Jennifer Harper was ready to start her workout when inspiration struck unexpectedly. She had planned to write about Joan of Arc for her songwriting circle prompt that week, but a different idea suddenly came to her.
Out of the blue, she heard the words “I want you to know who I am. I want you to know who I am. I’m Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene. Mary Magdalene. It’s time that you know my name. It’s time that you know my name, complete with melody as it appears in the finished version.
To Harper, the inspiration felt like a message about women’s power being hidden for so long . She believed the time had come now to bring that injustice to an end. And this is how Mary Magdalene was born.
