MSEA is the solo project by Maria-Carmela Raso, a Canadian artist living in Iceland’s capital, Reykjavik. Throughout the years, she has released a number of musical projects, which have received high praise. With Our daily apocalypse walk, MSEA takes things to another level. It breathes originality.

When the pandemic started, MSEA began working on Our daily apocalypse walk. In this period, she dreamed to escape and explore the strange worlds that her sleeping mind conjured. As the weeks passed, she noticed that her dreams became more vivid and bizarre. Dreamt soundscapes and scenarios informed the sonic palette and imagery of Our daily apocalypse walk.

Each song on this album is like a snapshot of the fantastical scenes and stories unfolding in MSEA’s subconscious during troubled times. The title track may be the one that amazes the most. MSEA’s vocals slither through the instrumentation like ephemeral beings, slippery and fleeting. Although it comes at the end of the record, it’s the pivotal moment – the convergence of mechanical and human, harsh and soft, terrestrial and celestial. It’s alluring yet portentous, as is the record.

Aside from the title track, other amazing tracks can be found here as well. Sap of the sun, for instance. It’s got such a cool melodic vibe. Lungs are for breathing seems more rhythmic-based, making the listener feel hypnotized. The pulsing drums and distorted electronic elements contribute greatly to the overall atmosphere.

To conclude, Our daily apocalypse walk is a striking project from MSEA that fashions a world based on anxieties, dreams, and the strange sensations of lockdown. Check it out below!
