New York-based singer-songwriter Lara Taubman has released a brand new album in her usual style, but with an added twist, called The Gospel of Getting Free. It brings refreshing creative approaches to balance things out. Expect a pleasant surprise. You must cherish every moment during listening. So yes, we can already confirm that this project has something extraordinary.

Home At Last kicks things off. It tells the story of an immigrant family entering an unfamiliar society. Splendid guitars are featured here. The Siren features atmospheric tones that give the instrumentals space to expand. The lyrics can be dark, and moodiness is omnipresent. The Reason I Was Born gives off a more empowering feel, grounding your feet on the floor. Taubman seeks an understanding of her place in the world here.

Assyrian King continues the vibe established earlier. The Odyssey reflects on simpler times with some cool storytelling. However, it isn’t the happiest song imaginable, as it deals with topics such as separation. Sugar talks about pain. There’s no one-size-fits-all solution to achieving comfort, given the context.

So Not Me explores the shadowy corners of self-doubt and alienation. Just when it seems the gloom might be all-consuming, Sing Your Song bursts forth like a ray of sunshine breaking through storm clouds. Love is the Rule hits you with a wall of sound, delivering huge rock ‘n’ roll energy.

As the album reaches its finale, you’re brought to the title track, The Gospel of Getting Free. It narrates the tale of a mystical boy ensnared by malevolent forces. Manipulated by the “gray men” in pursuit of the Holy Grail chalice, the grown man later discovers the truth and realizes that the vessel exists within everyone, not as a physical object. This spiritual revelation defies the evil men’s expectations. Misinterpreting his message as mockery, they tragically end his life. Even so, the story concludes on a hopeful note, emphasizing that evil cannot conquer his spirit and that the Grail awaits those who seek enlightenment within themselves.

Taubman is so detailed in what she communicates. This album celebrates the magic of music. Check out The Gospel of Getting Free below!
