Mallrat, aka Grace Shaw, is an accomplished singer-songwriter and producer who crafts left-of-center pop and breaks barriers in her own way. She releases Ray of Light. Its lyrics draw a picture of marveling at the world around, attempting to influence it, and feeling absorbed by a special person. You could say the song’s heart lies in embracing the magic of the present moment.
Ray of Light has both alt-pop and hyper-pop sounds that make it sensational. I love the experimental texturing during the chorus. The vocals, which have been altered in some way, are the cherry on top.
