Moon Rise City, an eclectic indie duo, taps into the nostalgia of George Gershwin’s 1935 classic, Summertime, transforming it for the modern era. Often, this is difficult to accomplish, but they succeeded. Things sound fresh and have the power to keep you hooked. The intelligent mixture of groovy bass lines, lush synths, and percussion works very well. And of course the singing is beautiful and carefully adjusted to what’s happening musically.
Summertime relates to the warmest time of year. Moon Rise City sing about jumping fish and cotton, conjuring up a casual environment. The song also alludes to the idea of hope and freedom, with the anticipation of the baby rising up singing, spreading their wings, and taking flight in the future.
Moon Rise City does something special every time. Check out Summertime below!
