Liz Mann is best known for being the lead singer of Leeds-based Indie band Purple Thread. But she’s also achieving success on her own. With Cherries, Mann draws heavily on nostalgia. Dreamy synths and a groovy bassline imbue the track with an energy that teleports you straight to the dance floor of an 80s discotheque. Mann’s vocals suit this theme admirably, floating atop the shimmering instrumentation.
Beyond its disco sonics, Cherries tackles relatable themes of heartbreak and loss. The lyrics address the difficulties of moving on from someone you cared for deeply when things become too complicated to continue. Ultimately, there’s no choice but to accept that the relationship is over, however painful the process may be.
Mann proudly carries the torch of British creative souls in the world of pop. Check out CHERRIES below!
