Lux by Jazzie Young, with its melancholic tones, tells a story that people can pretty easily relate to. The song is inspired by the character Lux from Sofia Coppola’s film The Virgin Suicides.

The lyrics conjure strong feelings of introspection. Lines like “Head underwater, searching for each other” tackle the situation of being overwhelmed by emotions and a desperate search for connection. The recurring theme of trying to rearrange life and the insomnia that follows a breakup speaks volumes about the impact of loss. The metaphor of “fingers taste like menthol” and “standing 10 feet tall” alludes to sensory memories that intensify nostalgia.

Using ethereal production, the song creates a space where you can almost feel the weight of time passing, as implied by “minutes and hours, days pass us by.” The collaboration with John Velasquez completes the package.
