drink up is a song by singer-songwriter Adeline V. Lopez addressing the struggle to stay true to yourself when pressured to conform to others’ expectations. It marks a change of pace for Adeline from her previous synth-heavy songs. drink up leans heavily into acoustic guitar and Adeline’s unfiltered vocals to set a introspective tone.
The cover art takes inspiration from Audrey Hepburn’s iconic image holding a martini glass on her head. But instead of the glass perched atop, a disembodied hand is shown forcing the glass into her open mouth. This powerful visual demonstrates the lack of autonomy at the heart of the song’s message. When we relinquish control over our own choices and direction, we lose our agency.
