Singer-songwriter Laura Mock releases CTC, the lead single from her debut EP, home/body. The song tells the story of Darling who dreams of escaping Earth to become part of the celestial realm, searching for meaning beyond the confines of human existence. She questions the significance of earthly ties, stating that people are just “dust” and their relevance is limited.
Mock, however, finds meaning in human connections, expressing that while we may be insignificant in the grand cosmic scale, we’re significant to someone. This contrast between Darling’s desire to transcend physical existence and the Mock’s appreciation for life leads to a poignant exploration of purpose and belonging.
CTC sounds great. It has some experimental undertones and doesn’t use any tricks. It makes the soundscape refreshing in its unfolding. The vocals glide through different tones, resulting in an even more fascinating song.
