When it comes to making music, many artists try to simply make their sound a little better, but Tara Craig takes a different approach. She truly sits down and contemplates how to make significant leaps forward. On her self-titled album, she depicts this mindset.
The project consists of nine songs that deliver the most unpredictable sounds, offering a varied palette. No track is the same as another.
Brave Tern opens on a high note, with shimmering synthesizers and delicate string arrangements ushering us into the creative vision Tara has carefully cultivated. The acoustic guitar work on New Beginning is truly sublime, providing a dazzling backdrop for Tara’s vocals. She maintains a similarly passionate intensity on Hold My Sail, the lyrics going straight to the soul with exceptional precision.
Things take a fascinating turn on Phantoms, where propulsive drumming guides us from murky depths into radiant light. The experimental textures of The Peninsula continue pushing sonic boundaries, while the deft acoustic guitar arrangement of Radiotowers, Jetstreams presents a welcome respite.
The album’s back half is equally strong, with Forgotten Home stealing the show and I’ll Shelter You and Homecoming evoking strong emotional responses.
Tara made a cohesive work that demands to be experienced from front to back in one session. Her songwriting and musical accents make this an album of the decade candidate. Check it out below!
