New York City-based singer-songwriter Hannah Cranton always strives to deliver nothing but the best. Her latest release, Back Bay, has the right vibe. It talks about staying hopeful even when things are crazy around you. Once you can do that, it shifts your whole outlook and makes the difficult stuff feel a bit easier to handle. Basically, you give yourself something to hold onto. And that’s not a bad thing at all – in fact, it’s really good.
The inspiration behind this song can be linked back to a moment of uncertainty in Boston. As Hannah found herself stranded amidst the inky blackness that had enveloped the city streets, the consequence of a generator fire that had knocked out power to a vast swath of the metropolis, she sought refuge in the warm glow of North Station. It was there, surrounded by the hustle and bustle of fellow travelers, that the lyrics took shape, a beacon of creativity born from the ashes of chaos.
Back Bay merges reggae and folk pop in its instrumentals. I’m totally digging how its develops – it’s got infectious little subtitles that just stick with you. And the vocals? They’re super solid, that’s for sure.
