Powerhouse Americana trio, The Rebel Eves, are committed to making others feel empowered. They release their new single American Dream. It’s about underrepresentation of women in the music industry. Unfortunately, this is still a problem. Women simply deserve way more praise for their contributions.
Numbers back this up. In a study completed by USC Annenberg’s Gender Inclusion Initiative (sponsored by Spotify), it has been found that women make up only 22.3% of artists on the billboard charts, and a staggering 12.8% of songwriters. “This is equivalent to a ratio of 6.8 men songwriters to 1 female writer.” Obviously, the ratio should be higher.
In addition to powerful lyrics, American Dream has iconic instrumentals. I love how the guitar weaves its way through the soundscape. And don’t forget about the vocals, they’re phenomenal. I really admire the way the lyrics are presented with such intensity.
