While it’s inspired by the artist’s personal experience of having her beloved bike (nicknamed Matilda) stolen, it functions as a broader allegory for missing something dear and struggling to move forward. The song truly captures that emotional weight of letting go.
Matilda has iconic instrumentation, dominated by shiny guitars. The singing brings out the heart of the song, so make sure you give it your full attention. Of course, the chorus sounds awesome.
