Co-producers and lovers, Abby Cole (Velcro Baby Ego) and Matheus Nascimento (Slowaves) make up the duo Lowne. They share their new single, Yard Sale. The song is about the freedom and release that comes when two people in a healthy relationship allow each other to let go of their personal baggage without judgment (“I’ll be here till sundown / If you want, bring your junk down”). However, true to Lowne’s style, the song also carries a subtle darker undertone, exploring the idea that while we may try to clean up and move past our issues, there are always parts of us that we try to bury or suppress (“Clean up the mess in your head / Shove it all under the bed”).
While Yard Sale has introspective lyrics, the arrangement remains spirited. I love how the grounded drumbeat, shimmery synths and quirky percussive elements bring everything together. The vocals are smooth and have their own place in the mix.
Lowne veers into the waters of Clairo and The Marias with this song, which I really like. Check out Yard Sale below!
