Norwegian artist MaVe lives for music. She recently debuted her second album, Ecstatic / Perplexed. It has vision and builds on real creativity rather than fleeting hypes.
Power Loving opens the project, describing the connection between two people who grow together as one, understanding and supporting each other better than they can themselves. The production sounds distinctive, with outstanding drumming by Halvor Dokke. Stardust follows and explores the transition from euphoria to loneliness. Spacious electronics and layered harmonies mesh wonderfully throughout.
Solo Flying focuses on loneliness and what it does to you as an adult. Although its lyrics make up the main attraction, the instrumentals are equally detailed. Next is Cloud Skies, featuring pleasantly layered guitars, evolving electronic soundscapes, playful vocal textures, and driving live drums.
Track number six, Extraordinary, talks about confidence and recognizing that strengths often come from weakness. WEAK once again delivers heartfelt songwriting, with an arrangement that begins traditional and develops into something more experimental as it progresses.
The last three songs on the album – Someone Else’s House (No Drums Version), Tolerate, and I’d Remember You – are really well done. They feel connected, like a mini three-part story.
Nothing but praise for Ecstatic / Perplexed. MaVe has firmly proven she’s here to stay, with a style that’s truly groundbreaking. For real. Be sure to check out the album below!
