Salty Licorice returns with Vincent’s Wife (p.113), the last single before the release of her debut EP, The Sunrise Cried, in May. This haunting yet liberating track bids farewell to illusion and embraces self-reclamation with triumphant conviction.
The dreamy pop backdrop opens with soft, romantic guitar riffs, capturing that rose-tinted feeling of new love. But as the song’s story unfolds, cracks start to show. The instrumentation darkens, the rhythm grows more urgent, building to a cathartic, hyper-pop-infused outro pulsing with euphoria.
Like Licorice’s previous singles, Vincent’s Wife (p.113) is more than just personal, it’s literary as wel.. The titular character is part of an evolving story inspired by Mata Hari, the infamous dancer, courtesan, and accused spy. A woman often misunderstood, vilified, and silenced. Taking cues from Paulo Coelho’s novel The Spy, Licorice filters her own emotional truth through this fictional lens.
