There are times when you come across a project that you want to keep listening to endlessly. Vyka’s second self-produced EP Homesick is one of those. The Ukrainian-born, Berlin-based artist has created something truly phenomenal.
There’s a rare kind of honesty in Homesick, as Vyka doesn’t simply tell a story, but takes you inside her mind. Across languages and melodies, it unfolds like a journey, tracing the invisible lines between migration, nostalgia, and self-discovery.
The project features some very emotional tracks, like Homesick, which examines the psychological turmoil of missing a homeland that has changed. Заспокой мене (Zaspokoy mene) is also deeply vulnerable. The Ukraine-sung song expresses the heaviness of displacement. Co-written with vladislava melis, it’s a prayer for peace and safety, centered on the promise: “I’ll come back when it’s safe”.
But Homesick doesn’t stay suspended in sadness. Vyka shifts gears with tracks like Let Them Out, injecting bold, rebellious energy into the mix. It’s about shedding imposed identities. Then there’s also the catchy song Sylvia. I love the way this bop unfolds both musically and lyrically. Closing with the acoustic version of Can’t Give My Love, Vyka brings us into the softness of family legacy.
Homesick is an EP full of heart. And Vyka left no detail unattended, so you can expect a high level of quality. Start streaming below!
