Bedolina’s Sun and Flamingos is a fascinating, mysterious walk through the beautifully unstable terrain of modern life. With 11 songs, the band surrounds you in a musical atmosphere that feels like the soundtrack to a film.
The influence of bands like Arcade Fire and The National is evident in the project: there’s a similar narrative intensity and sentimental weight. But Bedolina charts its own course, emboldened by spontaneous flourishes.
Tracks like We Are the Clock Ourselves Again and Dolphin (Swimming in a Sea of Love) distinguish themselves for their dramatic progressions and propulsive rhythms. Maze of Apathy opens the album with a layered soundscape that provides a backdrop for dancing. Interdimensional Parasites closes it all with a beautiful detour into experimental territory.
The album’s strength is amplified by Ken Gould’s distinct vocals, rich, expressive, and highly reminiscent of Peter Gabriel. His voice acts as both narrator and guide, carrying you through shifting moods.
As a whole, Sun and Flamingos is a confident and artful contribution, solidifying Bedolina’s presence in the indie rock landscape. It rewards repeated listening, for sure. We have already become addicted to it. And that’s not crazy, given the quality of the music.
