Dutch singer-songwriter Siebe Palmen is someone who always gives everything. He recently shared his new EP, Maartse buien, a four-part collection that’s on par with what major artists are currently doing. You have to hear it, because it might change your life.
The project starts with De lente. For a long time Siebe only played this song live and didn’t think about actually releasing it, which fortunately has happened now. Call it a blessing from the sky.
Of follows and talks about how hard it can be to figure out life while also trying to hold on to love. Its lyrics present a number of dilemmas that Siebe faces.
De seizoenen, the third tune, images how love develops over time. As with any process, there are ups and downs. But Siebe tries to embrace this knowledge and doesn’t give up when things go a little less. It’s just part of growing together, according to him.
Ondanks alles takes on the narrative of wanting to be seen even when things get chaotic, and punctuates the value of having someone who accepts you with open arms, no matter what happens. The way Siebe describes things here is beautiful, showing his real poetic side.
Maartse buien sounds like traditional Dutch pop, think of acts like BLØF. But it also has something of americana and country for example. It’s simply difficult to attach a real genre to this EP, because it takes influences from multiple ones.
The more you listen to Maartse Buien, the better it gets. It won’t be easy to find anything more honest!
