British-American trio Raynes stay true to a traditional sound while consistently showcasing exceptional talent. Their new EP, Bloom, is drawing considerable attention, and for good reason: it’s absolutely brilliant. From the very first track, Pulling Teeth (I Feel Like She Knows), you can tell that this trio has something special in store for you. With intricate vocal harmonies and unique instrumentation, their music offers a deeper, more artistically rich experience.
Picking a favorite track here remains tough. That said, Rainbow Baby really resonates with me; it explores both grief and hope in a powerful manner. Throughout, you hear banjo, acoustic guitar, and a kinetic string octet intertwining. I also love It’s So Quiet Without You. This one touches on the pain of separation and the longing for reconciliation. Layered vocal tracks are elegantly complemented by a lush ensemble of strings.
Turn It and Twist shouldn’t be overlooked either. It features accordion, trumpet, hand claps, and foot stomps that bring easy-going energy. The lyrics are written from the perspective of someone on the losing end of an argument, which is a refreshing and honest angle.
Raynes are at the top of their game right now. I really enjoy Bloom, it does exactly what it’s supposed to do, and so much more. It only makes me more curious about what the future holds for these three guys. Check out the EP below!
