Rainey Qualley, known for her dreamy alt-pop alias Rainsford, has made a striking return with her latest single, Butterfly. But don’t be fooled by the delicate title. This isn’t some dainty garden waltz. It’s a full-blown emotional spiral: a moth-to-the-flame, scorched-wing descent into heartbreak.
Butterfly‘s musical atmosphere is pure Rainsford: sincere vocals, shimmering guitars, and a drumbeat you can slow-dance your sorrow away to. You feel it in your chest.
The lyrics tap into the feeling of emotional addiction, where you’re fully aware that the relationship is hurting you, yet you keep coming back, fluttering dangerously close to the metaphorical flame. The lyrics are absolutely thoughtful.
