Norwegian vocalist Neon Ion, the force behind Neon Ion, returns with her most personal track yet. Laugh Now, Cry Later was written during a week when she faced devastating health news, infertility struggles, and sudden deafness during pregnancy. On the brink of quitting music, a producer convinced her to show up to the studio and what followed was a breakthrough.
The song is sonically a chaotic emotional explosion, with elements of jazz, soul, psych, and pop. Distorted signals and clipped takes were left in the mix to capture the unfiltered energy of the session. Featuring a powerhouse band including Ole Mofjell on drums and Jonas Hamre on sax, and produced by long-time collaborator Erlend Mokkelbost, the arrangement rocks.
