Kat Velasco is saddling up for a new era with her empowering single Show Pony, the first taste of her upcoming EP Cowgirl Complex (arriving next year). It points out the moment when you finally stop performing for others and start living for yourself.
Velasco grew up in a small town where appearances were everything. Show Pony puts an end to that pressure, breaking years of perfectionism into a declaration of freedom. “There’s a pressure to be perfect, to always look the part, smile on cue, and NEVER show any sort of cracks,” she shares.
I love the production here. It strikes a sweet spot between country warmth and pop polish. Lighthearted guitar strums and soft percussion carry Velasco through a sonic landscape that feels both wistful and fierce.
