Sophie Gault, one of Nashville’s fiercest Americana rockers, shares her rendition of Gurf Morlix’s Is There Anyone Out There, from Kiss of the Diamondback. It has metallic guitar strings that build well throughout. The vocals are masterfully performed and really fill the atmosphere with energy. It’s impossible not to love them.
Gault explains: “It’s magical how this one came together. I’ve known Gurf for a few years now, and he’s always been very supportive and encouraging to me as an artist and writer, which is a big deal to me. He’s made some of the music that is now a part of my own musical identity—he helped shape how I play the guitar when I was listening to him all those late nights trying to work out licks that I still use to this day. I’d been meaning to do a cover of one of his songs, and while I was on a flight home from somewhere, I listened to Kiss of the Diamondback, one of my favorite Gurf albums. This was the last song on that album, and it put me in such a calm, meditative state. I decided that has to be the one I do. So I worked up my own version.”
Is There Anyone Out There truly fascinates me. Every time you listen to it, you feel as though you’re on journey. Check out the below!
