Lola Consuelos is a singer-songwriter from New York City, whose passion for music started at a young age. She recently released her debut EP, Sorry, it’s all about me. Writing this project served as therapy for Lola. It gave her the opportunity to let go of old grudges and unsaid feelings, and has helped her stay present and grateful for everything that comes her way.
Lola opens the EP, and boy, does it sound good. I love the piano melody that floats elegantly over the atmospheric build. The vocals take the lead with significant presence. The lyrics are about how Consuelos doesn’t wait for anyone, but is prepared to take the road she wants. She sounds super confident.
Hypochondriac features some great guitar work and also cool poppy textures. It provides more insight into Consuelos’ personality. I love how the story is peppered with so many little details.
Not Like You walks the line between indie pop and alt pop, featuring smooth drums, crisp bass, and subtle guitar lines. During the chorus, Consuelos sings, “I’ll never be like you,” making her point very clear. She’s obviously no longer interested in someone.
Consuelos keeps it real once again on End Of The World. I’ve to say that it really astonishes. You truly live the story in your head. It’s likewise cool how the track ends with a gospel-like outro.
Sexier closes out the EP and reminds me of 2010s pop, but slightly more contemporary. Lines like ”I hate you / I love you”, show her conflicted feelings. The narrative is relatable for sure.
Consuelos looks set to become the next big name in the music industry. She has a good sense of what a good song should contain. Check out Sorry, it’s all about me below!
