MIIA’s Wonder Why is precisely about this exact phenomenon, describing a connection that feels like fate but has an expiration date you can see right away. It’s the third preview of her debut album HULDRA (Spring 2026), and it aches in the right ways.
The genius is in the details. “You’re almost a July, but bittersweetest August”, six words that contain an entire relationship timeline. July is still drunk on sunshine and bad decisions that feel like destiny. August is when you realize summer doesn’t last and neither does this, no matter how perfect it seemed three weeks ago. MIIA doesn’t waste time explaining; she just drops you into the feeling of knowing someone’s temporary while you’re still in the middle of not wanting them to be.
On a sonic level, Wonder Why moves with the pulse of a fever dream. Alt-pop drenched in R&B shimmer, all hypnotic production and vocals that hover somewhere between explosive and chill.
