Three o’clock in the morning is a strange time. You know nothing good happens at that hour. You know you should be asleep, should be over it, should have stopped texting back months ago. And yet there you are, making the same choices, telling yourself the same stories, because some part of you still believes this time will be different.
Ava Della Pietra’s new single 3am captures that exact feeling with an honesty that’s almost too honest. It talks about the leaving, the coming back, and the slow decay of someone who keeps choosing hope over self-preservation. And it’s really, really good.
The sonics make the sadness feel genuine rather than performed, and Della Pietra’s vocal is tempered in all the right places, she never oversells a single moment, which makes every vulnerable line hit twice as hard.
Go listen to 3am below. You’ll feel very seen, and you won’t mind at all.
