Joy in the midst of nothing happening is an unassumingly radical choice, and one that lies at the base of Ann King’s Cherry Tree Lane, a nostalgic indie-pop track that understands sometimes the hardest chapters aren’t the dramatic ones, but the waiting ones.
Inspired by Mary Poppins (yes, really), this song is about learning to dance in the rain, both emotionally and literally. It was written, sung, and fully produced in a bedroom, but it sounds spectacular.
The soundscape is formed by soft piano textures, subtle orchestral elements that increase richness , and warm, close vocals that sound as if they have been sung directly to you.
