Ben Lauder’s new single, Maddie keeps telling me…, is a love letter to Maddie, the friend who picks up the phone when the spiral starts, who talks you down from the edge of a completely disproportionate dating crisis, and who understands that sometimes you just need someone to tell you that crying outside a club because you struck out is, objectively, a little bit funny.
Written in James Allen’s Edinburgh home studio on March 9th and finished less than a month later, the track came together in a whirlwind of production sent back and forth until everything clicked. The speed shows in the best possible way. It has the energy of something caught in the moment rather than laboured over.
