The Royal Foundry are your mom’s kid’s favourite band. Their new satirical love song, WOW, talks about being irresistibly drawn to someone who is, quite frankly, a complete disaster. The lyrics poke fun at all those ridiculous red flags that somehow become part of the attraction, while also turning the joke back on yourself. What starts as a laugh at someone else’s questionable behaviour gradually becomes a little more uncomfortable when you realise you might recognise some of it in yourself.
I really like the sound of this one. The giant distorted hook makes WOW feel loud, bold, and unmissable, and the tongue-in-cheek attitude comes through in the music just as much as in the lyrics. It has a wonderfully over-the-top energy that suits the song just right.
