Fresh from touring with Paul Weller, Suzanne Vega, and Katherine Priddy, British singer-songwriter Amelia Coburn shares I Just Want To Say, the first single from her upcoming second album. Inspired by hybristophilia, the intense attraction some people feel towards criminals, the song takes the form of love letters written by a woman to a serial killer. Amelia plays with the line between love, lust, and obsession, as the narrator’s devotion becomes increasingly possessive and unsettling. What makes the story so intriguing is the question of who is really dangerous: the man she writes to, or the woman who refuses to see him for what he is.
I Just Want To Say has amazing instrumentation, with enough interesting dynamics to keep you interested. The vocals sound convincing, no matter what section they’re in.
