JJ & The Mood, the project of Cincinnati-based singer-songwriter Jack Sjogren, has been recognized by EARMILK and Galore and received placements in Apple iPhone, Uber, and Saks OFF 5TH advertising campaigns. Last week, they released their much-anticipated debut album, We Already Have The Answer, via Trailing Twelve Records. Over the course of ten tracks, Sjogren touches upon various topics relevant to self-discovery, relationships, vulnerability and the challenge of learning to accept yourself, all in a playful way.
We Already Have The Answer sounds cool. It uses warm analog textures with infectious grooves to form an eclectic mix of indie pop, disco, and funk. I love the idea of disguising personal hardships into something you can dance to, especially on tracks like Tired of Being Tough, which confronts the pressure to always look strong, and Gonna Sleep Good Tonight, which treats dancing as a way to clear your head.
Besides the tracks mentioned above, there are other highlights worth checking out. Take the title track, for example, where Sjogren considers the possibility that we might already know the answers we’re seeking, set against a surreal synth soundscape. How Many Times is another magnificent track, celebrating the simple joy of ordinary happiness.
You can tell We Already Have The Answer was made with nothing but heartfelt energy, and that’s something you just can’t fake. If you’re looking for a little pick-me-up, this is definitely worth checking out. Trust me, it’ll make you optimistic once again and get your feet moving in no time.
