Hailing from Vienna, Austria, Lang discovered her love for music at an early age, studying classical piano and singing, which led her to relocate to Boston in 2012 to attend Berklee College of Music. She graduated in 2016 and spent the next couple of years in Brooklyn before moving out to LA this past year to focus on more collaborations. After giving listeners a taste of her soulfully charged sound on the ballad Don’t Make Me, the singer returns this fall with her debut EP. Fusing elements of R&B and soul with electronic beats to create a candid and sultry journey through her 20s while chasing dreams and getting caught up in one or the other relationship.
Comfort Zone is the first single from Marie’s debut EP and it sounds grandiose. I adore the unique groovy melodies which create innovative landscapes full of new musical elements. Besides, the dynamic rhythms are very impressive. Furthermore, I am also a big fan of Marie’s sublime vocals, she knows to capture attention until the last note!
Lyrically, Marie tries to escape a honeymoon phase when “nothing puts you off because you haven’t gotten to know someone for their true colors” and channels her desire to get past their comfort zone: “Hope you make it up, one last try to get more than surface, want all of your edges.”
There is also made a DIY music video for Comfort Zone, shedding a little more light into Marie’s LA-based world, taking us into her home, her home streets, and her creativity as well. The video was shot on her iPhone with fellow singer/songwriter Noé and is certainly a warm piece of home video.
You can say without any doubt that Marie has made modern art, Comfort Zone showcases many artistic and creative expressions. Start streaming/watching it as soon as possible and feel free to sing along while listening!
