Formed in a bedroom in Vredehoek and expanded in a basement in Kommetjie, Diamond Thug’s combination of South African rhythms with indie pop dreamscapes has taken their music on a journey around the world. The band’s debut album Apastron was set within the depths of space, with celestial bodies and laws of planetary motion being used as metaphors for earth-bound problems. Gaining over 3M streams in its first year, the album earned its place as one of the most streamed Independent releases from South Africa.

The Woods is Diamond Thug’s new single and it is a real gem. The vocals are sublime and create grandiose landscapes. Besides, the melodies showcase a lot of innovative elements. Furthermore, I also adore the quirky rhythms!

Speaking about The Woods the band’s frontwoman Chantel explains, ”The Woods is about being lost in a dense forest of emotional isolation, while on a walk through the wilderness. We wrote a scratch of the song in a practice room in London and then recorded it across continents, while I was in the French Alps and the band was back in Cape Town.”
