Jaz Beeson, a British singer-songwriter, created her own genre, named sunflower-pop. Last Friday, she released her long-awaited debut single Wanna Know. It has a calm sound to it. The song is driven by dream-haze harmonies and earworm melodies. Jaz, one of the best songwriters of the moment, writes so evocatively. Her lyrics draw comparison to Phoebe Bridgers, Maisie Peters and Holly Humberstone.
“Wanna Know is about that feeling when you’re trying to figure out if the person you like, likes you. I found myself asking my friends ‘do you think they like me? I really wanna know’, and so the hook was born. I wrote this in my bedroom on a chilly December night, and never did find out if they were interested.”
