The Deep Blue present He Said She Said; a call to arms to stand up alongside victims of sexual and domestic abuse. Lyrically, it addresses very important issues. Songs like this have influence and can’t be made enough.
The three-part harmony gives the music layers of texture. When accompanied by minimalist guitars and relaxed kit-work, the sound only becomes only more striking. The Deep Blue are redefining Alternative Indie Folk.
They comment on the track: “He Said She Said was written in response to section 72 of The Domestic Abuse Act of 2021. Inspired by stories in the news and some of our own experiences, we offer this song as a voice for the countless women who have been harmed by or lost their lives to domestic or sexual violence. It’s a topic full of sadness but we wanted to wrap it in an upbeat sound and swap the sadness for strength. We’re not here to make you cry, we’re here to light a little fire in you.”
A true feminist anthem, the subtlety of the production runs in parallel to the crude nuances of systemic sexism. Wherever individual examples of abuse may fall on the spectrum of severity, He Said She Said is a call for an outright upheaval of the conscious and subconscious patriarchal practices that plague the population.
The Deep Blue make a powerful statement. He Said She Said should be heard by all people. Messages in it convey profound meaning. Check out the audio below!
