Chynna Lewis’ new single Where I Left You is a raw and emotional ballad about her experience with a broken relationship. The lyrics are intensely personal and tell the story of a love that was ultimately not meant to be. Lewis wrote the song during a time when her heart was broken and she thought she would never recover. Despite being in the middle of a healing process, she went back to her ex. Lewis felt that it was better for her to be in pain than all alone. According to her, this happened because she did not love herself enough. Lewis grew from this situation and won’t follow the same path twice.
When it comes to love, we often think about our relationships with other people. But what about our relationship with ourselves? It’s just as important, if not more so. When we have self-love, we are better equipped to make healthy decisions for ourselves. Chynna sings about how she was lacking in self-love, and how it led her to make some not-so-great choices. But she also highlights the benefit of self-love, and how it’s something we all need in order to be happy. This song is a reminder that we should never underestimate the power of self-love.
The arrangement on Where I Left You is surprisingly minimal, and it works in the song’s favor. By keeping the production understated, Chynna is allowed her lyrics to speak for themselves.
