It’s been a tough period for many people, and we’re not immune to the struggles. In a time where so many things are uncertain, it can be hard to let go of what was once comfortable. But sometimes we have to in order to make way for something new.
RVBY MY DEAR’s song Black Moon is based on her personal experiences with the pandemic and the dissolution of a long-term relationship. The lyrics “forget living life, I’m killing time tonight” describe the inescapable allure of endlessly doom-scrolling, as we muddle our way through a seemingly inescapable isolation, desperate to find any form of connection while ignoring those closest to us.
I think that when you’re by yourself, you come to know yourself in a whole other way. You’re forced to confront your own thoughts and feelings, and that can be a really powerful thing. It’s not always easy, but I think it’s worth it. RVBY explores the topic of solitude splendidly.
